Eugene, OR
In the past few years the true meaning of the word "inheritance" has become very real to me. Both my parents suddenly passed away within a short time of each other, leaving my siblings and me with a financial inheritance. My parents worked hard for many years. They spent countless hours carefully investing and consulting with financial advisors through both prosperous and perilous times to preserve funds for their retirement and security.
In the end, the money could not replace the inheritance that we truly needed as their children. Money could not hold our family together, but merely divided us. It was our hearts that needed investment and needed to be secured. If timehad been invested, and spiritual seeds sown, we would have been rich.

It was our hearts that needed investment and needed to be secured. If timehad been invested, and spiritual seeds sown, we would have been rich.
What I had longed for all my life was a relational and spiritual inheritance. I have watched many men and women who have been blessed with a long line of parents and grandparents who have given their lives to see a spiritual inheritance passed onto their children and their children's children. These godly parents invested time, love and honor into their children. They taught them how to walk with God and how to love Him with all of their hearts. I have always been in awe of this kind of legacy – a godly inheritance that would not pass away. (Photo via Wikipedia)
I honor the work of my parent's hands and how they labored for many years to make a good life for themselves and leave a monetary inheritance for their children. The truth is that I would have traded every penny for a spiritual inheritance.
The Inheritance That Will Never Pass Away
A spiritual inheritance is something that my husband and I have been laboring to leave our children and our children's children. It is something that we can give them while we are still alive, and something that we can leave them after we are gone.
Psalm 37:18 says, The blameless spend their days under the LORD's care, and their inheritance will endure forever.
Teaching our children to live fully in the Lord's care, in absolute dependence on His promises and to listen to His voice every day of their lives is the greatest investment we can make. We would give our very lives to make sure that within our family we prepare a place where the blessing of the Lord can rest for generations to come.
Our greatest longing is for our children to know that they are loved not just by us, but by the One who gave His life for us. We invest our love, time, prayers, counsel, affections and finances into each of them. We long to leave an inheritance of truth and righteousness that reads, "His love endures forever!" This is an everlasting inheritance; one that will not end. His love is eternal and is the answer to every question they will ever need answered after we are gone. The height, width, length and depth of His love are the boundaries that we want our children to live in.
Psalm 16:6 The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.
His Inheritance
Along with teaching our children about leaving a spiritual inheritance, we also have taught them that they are the inheritance that the Father longs to give His Son.
Investing in His inheritance is the greatest investment that we can make. For thousands of years the enemy has sought to kill, steal and destroy the inheritance that is to be given to Jesus. WE ARE HIS INHERITANCE! You are His inheritance; every man, woman and child that has ever lived was created to be His inheritance.
Psalm 28:9 says, Save your people and bless your inheritance; be their shepherd and carry them forever.
God is moving on the hearts of His sons and daughters to go into all the Earth to gather the inheritance of His Son. They are dispersed throughout the nations, and many have been sent to gather the lost seeds. The Father is waiting for the return of His sons and daughters who are His Son's Bride.
The Prodigal: His Inheritance Comes Home
God longs for His family. He longs for every wayward child, every son and daughter that has wandered from His care. Just like the father in the parable of the prodigal son, our heavenly Father waits with anticipation for His sons and daughters to return home. In that story the son feared returning home because he had squandered his father's inheritance and was too ashamed to face him. But all the father longed to do was embrace his son and cover his shame by restoring him into his family. (Photo via Wikimedia)
Luke 15:20-24 But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. The son said to him, "Father, I have sinned against Heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son." But the father said to his servants, "Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found." So they began to celebrate.
The father was not concerned about the money that had been wasted, becausehe knew that his son was the true inheritance. Our heavenly Father understands this; He gave His most precious possession – Jesus – in order to provide a way for His family to come home. His family is His inheritance. You and I are the true inheritance.
A Jubilee Year
As we have now passed Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) into the year 5776, we have entered what is considered a Jubilee year. Jubilee refers to a year where debts are paid and land is returned to its original owners.
I believe that this is God's Jubilee year for many. Many prodigals will have their debts forgiven and they will return to their true Father. God's inheritance will increase and His family will grow. Let us announce this jubilee over our families, over our cities and over the nations. We will partner with our Father to see His Son have the inheritance that He is worthy and deserving of. This year both physical and spiritual inheritances will be returned. There will be a transfer of wealth from the enemy camp to God's family. This wealth will be lives that have been held by sin and death as well as resources that have been in the hands of the ungodly.
Proverbs 13:22 A good person leaves an inheritance for their children's children, but a sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous.
God will release the wealth of sinners in the hands of the righteous this year in ways that will astonish many. These transfers will resource many to go forth to bring Jesus His inheritance.
