Moving From Wrestling to Blessing by Dr. Sandie Freed

Dear Believers,
Are you ready to experience the fullest of God's blessing? I know you are, and so am I! I know that God's Word says that we are blessed, but there's more to understand as God continues to unfold more revelation connected to us accessing the fullness. As I began to pray and seek the Lord concerning a directive word for myself as well as the Body of Christ for 2016, God began to minister to me concerning the life of Jacob.
Jacob has always been one of my favorite Biblical characters. Why? Because I have always felt that if God would bless Jacob, a person who was basically a thief (remember he stole his brother's birthright), and was deceitful, conniving, and manipulating, then surely I had a chance!
Maybe some of you can chuckle with me a bit, or maybe even relate to a degree. However, let's think about this just for a moment. God chose to name Himself as the "God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob." He did not instruct us to remember Him as the "God of Esau," who was actually in position for the generational inheritance from his father, Isaac. Therefore, it's clear that God honored Jacob's desire to receive the birthright – even though he chose to deceive his brother and father to receive it! (Isaac blessing Jacob; photo via Wikipedia)
Yet, there is more to this story. In fact, as I share this word with you, keep in mind that though Jacob received the birthright, God made sure that later Jacob would have to meet Him face-to-face to get the downflow of the full blessing. For each of us today, we may strive to receive the blessing, even scheme to grab hold of it, but at the end of the day, we must have an encounter with God to walk out the fullness of all that He desires to give us.
Are you ready to be empowered for 2016? Well, keep reading...here comes the understanding of receiving the fullness of the blessing!
Jacob Leaves the Old to Enter Into the New
In Genesis 31, we are given the account of Jacob, who is instructed to leave, take his family, animals, servants, and accumulated wealth with him and return to his homeland. Now, keep in mind that Jacob must have immediately thought of how wonderful it would be to move away from his father-in-law, Laban, but also it was a bittersweet event because he would also encounter his brother, Esau. In fact, he would be crossing over into Esau's territory! Esau was now his enemy, not necessarily a "family-friendly" relationship any longer. Yet, God assured Jacob that He would be with him as he journeyed home (see Genesis 31:3). It's always comforting to know that when we are about to transition, leave the old behind, and enter into a new season, that God promises to be with us, right?
Yet, rather than telling Laban he was leaving, Jacob actually ran away from him and took Laban's family with him! To add insult to injury, his daughter, Rachel, took her father's household gods with them. Laban didn't like the fact that his family was stolen from him nor that his false gods were now in the possession of Rachel. (Jacob leading Laban's flocks; photo via Wikimedia Commons)
Laban immediately set out to find Jacob, but was warned by God to basically not harm Jacob in any way. When Laban found Jacob and his family, he actually forgave them, made covenant with them, and blessed them! Now, that's a great going-away gift, wouldn't you agree? This is an example of how when God says, "I will be with you as you follow My directives," that He truly does come through for us with a blessing!
But now, what about Jacob meeting Esau? Esau was a hunter – skilled with bow and arrow. A hunter knows how to kill; Jacob could easily deceive, but to kill? In an attempt to make an easier transition on his brother and him, Jacob sends word to Esau that he has left Laban and desires to receive his favor. Messengers came back to tell Jacob that Esau was coming to meet him and was bringing four hundred men with him (probably more like warriors)! Maybe not what Jacob had envisioned!
Jacob Wrestles
Genesis 32 gives us the account that describes that as Jacob went forth, God's angels met him. It appears that possibly he believed that it was God's army that had shown up to encourage him and do battle if needed. Therefore, he called that place Mahanaim which meant "two armies" and "two camps."
Jacob had seen angels – yet when he received word that Esau was bringing his army of four hundred, Jacob became afraid and distressed. He became divided in his faith – like being in between the "faith camp" and the "doubting camp," we might say today. Then he acted upon the division as he divided his wives, the flocks, herds, and camels in two groups to protect them from his brother. He prayed fervently for deliverance from the wrath of his brother. Then the next day, Jacob sent a multitude of livestock to Esau as a present, hoping that this gift would be pleasing to his brother. As in...maybe he'll let me live!
That night, he rose up and took his two wives, two women servants, and eleven sons and passed over the ford of Jabbok. Jacob sent them all across the brook and sent over ALL he had (see Genesis 32:23). And, then, Jacob was left alone. While at night, all alone, with all of his possessions having crossed over, a Man (named by theologians as God in human form and/or the Angel of the LORD) wrestled with him until daybreak. (Jacob wrestles; photo via Wikimedia Commons)
Yes, Jacob wrestled. Out of nowhere a man seeks him out for a wrestling match! Jacob is not looking for any type of fight; in fact, he's trying to avoid one! Yet, he is in a wrestling match...and it was with God! What was God after? What was the purpose of this wrestling match?
Between Two Camps – Between Two Decisions
Let's take a look again where Jacob was geographically. He was at the brook of Jabbok (previously named by him as Mahanaim, which, again, means "two camps"). Yes, Jacob is in transition and between two camps: the camp of Esau and the camp of Jacob, the camp of God and the camp of man, the camp of the Edomites and the camp of the Israelites. Two camps are equal to two opposing opinions (or beliefs). Could it be that God was after an opinion in Jacob? To me, this is much like the time when Elijah approached the Israelites and the false prophets of Baal and said..."How long will you waver between two opinions?"(Photo via Wikipedia)
Jacob was at the same place. Remember now, his wife brought false gods with her. Thankfully, he sent everything away and those false gods went with Rachel to the other side...he was now separated from the influence of false gods. Let's see if we might relate to this a bit. Maybe God is calling us to separate ourselves from our own "false gods"? I think so! But let me say this, we won't be able to take a firm stand in our wrestling match if idolatry has a firm hold on us. I have written before that idolatry for New Covenant Believers is anything that does not agree with what God says about us or how we perceive the truth about our loving Lord.
On the other hand, what was Jacob's opinion of God? Of himself? Jacob had been fairly self-centered – wouldn't you agree? Think about this: Just like most of us, he wanted to experience the good things in life – the blessings of God. All of his life he had reached out to "grab" and to "grasp" the blessing. Even when born, he grasped Esau's heel in an attempt to be born first and receive the blessing. Maybe you can relate. I know that I have experienced times when I attempted to grab hold of success, prosperity, and blessing in my own strength.
But now, Jacob was wrestling with the Almighty God who had sought Jacob out with the intention of doing a powerful act: to bless Jacob Himself. God wanted to prove to Jacob that the blessing could only come through Him and His relationship with Jacob.
The Transjordan
Another named area where Jacob was located at this time was called the "Transjordan." This name means "downflow." He was in the area of both the Transjordan and Jabbok. Another meaning for "Jabbok" is "outflow." God had Jacob in transition (between two camps), between an opportunity to receive a downflow so that he could experience an outflow. God met him face-to-face, and Jacob named that place Peniel which means "face of God." But, this word also means "power" and "strength." God's strength was shown to Jacob, and from that time on he was to be reminded that he could only receive the blessings, strength, and power of God while at the same time understanding the weakness of his own flesh.
As he wrestled with the Lord, the Lord changed His name to "Israel." No longer would he be known as a supplanter, a liar, or a deceiver. Now he had a new name, meaning "prince of God." Jacob was determined to not let go until the Lord blessed him. (Photo via Flickr)
It was a long wrestling match – it went on until the break of day. During the match, God also touched Jacob in the "hollow of his thigh." It left him with a limp at the end of the match, as you probably know, but let me explain the significance of this limp. It may be new revelation to you.
The Limp
God chose a specific place to touch (smite) Jacob. He touched him in the "hollow" of his thigh. A hollow place is an empty place. The thigh in Scripture is symbolic of reproduction and fruitfulness. Amazingly, God chose to smite the unfruitful place in Jacob! This was not an act of punishment; it was an act of love from God, for He directly confronted an area in Jacob's life which was barren. The barren place within Jacob's life was the continual striving to appear to be blessed, or for others to notice that he was blessed; but he needed to actually realize that he was blessed! In fact, the word "touch" means that God touched him with His hand, yes, but it is further translated that God did a "violent act" against something. When God "touched" him, I believe He did a violent action against all that was barren in Jacob's life!
When the wrestling match was over, Jacob walked away with a limp. I have heard many sermons on this, but allow me to share with you what I believe this limp was.
First of all, the limp was a constant reminder of the fact that in Jacob's weakness (the flesh) God will always be strong. God had said that He would be with him in this journey, and God showed up to meet Jacob face-to-face with His power. God could have easily thrown Jacob down in one blow. But, He met Jacob right where he was – as a grabber and a grasper. Again, Jacob's name means "supplanter," but actually it is more accurately defined as a "grabber and a grasper."
In a wrestling match, there are no direct blows – you grab at each other to pull them down and pin them down. When you're pinned down by God, He is meaning business. God loved Jacob, and at the same time He meant business. God changed the rules of this wrestling match: He delivered a direct blow to a barren situation – all for the good of Jacob! No longer would he be a grasper and a grabber...he would now walk with a constant reminder of the power and the goodness of God. (Photo via Pixabay)
When we study the word "limp" further, it is the same definition as "waver" and "halt." In other words, Jacob had come to the same place of transition – much like when the Israelites had to choose what to believe of God. Just as when Elijah had said "How long will you waver (limp, halt) between two opinions?" Again, Jacob was in between two opinions, two different camps and belief systems...and he walked away knowing his true identity. No longer did he need to grasp or grab – the blessing was now His because God said so! When Israel limped away, he still limped with the reminder of who he was as Jacob, but was empowered with his new name and nature.
It's so true, "The more you realize and understand who you ARE, the more you are less willing to be who you WERE." Dear ones, God's power is available to empower you to transition this year. Know who you are in Him and that revelation will empower you to walk in all that God says about you and your future.
My recent books, Silencing the Accuser: Eight Lies Satan Uses Against Christians, as well as Letting Go of Your Limitations: Experiencing God's Transforming Power (order from The Elijah List), were written to empower Believers to defeat the enemy, let go of the past, and experience God's transforming power and blessings. Both of these books expose hidden areas of idolatry and provide empowering prayers to help you cycle out of the old and enter into your new season. I encourage to read these if you haven't – I truly want you to experience God's very best in 2016!
Allow me to pray a prayer of empowerment:
Father God, thank You for touching us! Thank You for touching every barren and empty place in our lives. Lord, 2015 was a difficult year. It was a year where we wavered and limped between two opinions. In the past, we were tempted to not trust You. We were afraid. Though it was a time of crossing over into greater faith, we feared for our future. The enemy has risen up against us, and yet we have been reminded of Your promises and Your power. Father, thank You for reminding us that You are our Protector and Deliverer. Thank You for blessing us. Thank You for being there – in our future!
Lord, empower us to walk confidently in our God-given identity in 2016. I am who You say that I am! In Jesus' name, amen!
Dear ones, God has touched you; He has changed you, and He has promised you the blessing!
In Christ and forever serving Him and the Kingdom,

Jesus Brought His World with Him by Dr. Sandie Freed

This is the time of year that we celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. In the midst of shopping, Christmas gatherings, and holiday festivities, it's easy to lose sight of "Whom" we are actually celebrating! I'm guilty of not pulling aside more and spending intimate time with the Lord due to all the busyness of this holiday season.
But, the other day, while preparing for our church Christmas party, I sought the Lord for something to minister to our ladies whom were attending the gathering. I desired something fresh, something new; you know...something revelatory to minister. After all, how many different ways can we impactfullyteach the Christmas message? Well, precious reader, keep reading. What the Lord spoke to me about the birth of Christ was astounding! You are going to love this revelation.
He Brought His World with Him
First, let me remind you that when Jesus came, He brought His world (Heaven) with Him. Though He came as man and not God, He still brought the government of Heaven with Him and He came to establish the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. We are going to take a look at a Biblical passage in Isaiah that most people don't even read until Christmas. It's a familiar passage, but a passage that when understood can unlock hidden mysteries concerning all that Jesus came to give us through His birth, death, and resurrection! And, we can walk in this particular revelation all year long! (Photo by Jennifer Page "The Way, The Truth, The Life" via elijahshopper.com)
Isaiah 9:6-7 is probably one of the most familiar Biblical passages read during this time. Even Handel, the musician, included this passage in one of the great choruses of his Messiah oratorio. It's highly possible that each of us either sings it or hears it often during Christmas. Let's take a moment and read what Isaiah said as he prophesied the birth of Jesus, the different names by which Jesus wanted to be known, and what His mission was on the earth. Then, we will study these important facts individually:
"For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this"(Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV).
Okay. Let's begin our study. Jesus was born with the "government" of God upon His shoulders. What does that mean?
Well, again, He brought Heaven with Him when He was born, but He also brought Heaven's government – the "rulership and dominion" of Heaven to our earth. Bottom line: He was coming to earth to establish His Lordship on the earth.
The earth is the Lord's, according to Psalm 24:1. Though the devil would love to believe it is eternally his – it isn't! Jesus came to reestablish God's dominion over the powers of darkness. Yes, Jesus is LORD over all the earth! His birth was simply an announcement that the Kingdom of God and the Kingdom of Heaven were at hand; yes, He brought His Kingdom with Him, and now it was available to mankind.
But wait, there is more! The word "government" in Isaiah 9:6 is the Hebrew word misrah (pronounced as mis-raw'); and it means "empire." So, one could easily conclude that the "empire of Heaven" came to earth when Jesus was born. The word misrahis rooted in another Hebrew word which means "prevail." Oh, wow! This is confirmation that Jesus brought with Him a mandate from Heaven which was for Him to prevail over the enemy, satan and all of His evil deeds, and to establish Heaven on earth! And, the fact that the government was upon His shoulders establishes Him as "Lord" or in "lordship" over the empire. (Photo by Jennifer Page "It Is Finished" via elijahshopper.com)
It's unfortunate that, like ornaments we hang on our Christmas tree, we only yearly carefully read all that Isaiah prophesied concerning the coming Messiah. Have we ever stopped to think about all that applies to the King of kings and how He came to give us Heaven on earth and dominion over evil? Now, I know that most of you reading this article understand that we have been given dominion over the enemy and that the original mandate in the Garden of Eden was for mankind to rule and reign upon the earth. However, did you ever really stop to consider or ponder all that Jesus brought with Him besides that? Well, again, keep reading. There's more!
What Jesus' Different Names Mean for You
Now that we've established the fact that Jesus brought dominion and an established Kingdom with Him at His birth, let's delve into more revelation. Did you notice just how He wants to be recognized? He wants us to know Him as "Wonderful Counselor," "Mighty God," "Prince of Peace," and "Everlasting Father."
When Jesus said He wants His name known as "Wonderful Counselor," just what does that entail? When I began to ponder just how Jesus wanted to be known as that (and other names as you will continue to read about), I became overwhelmed with a desire to dig in and begin an in-depth study. Think about it: If you could choose a name that would reveal how you truly desired to be known – what would it be? Yes, it's an identity thing...but Jesus was choosing an identity for eternity! It involved names that would never change and would be names so pregnant with eternal power to fulfill the promises within that name.
Your "Wonderful Counselor"
The name "Wonderful Counselor" involves God Himself being our Counselor. He counsels us different ways: Through His Word, a revelation, a prophetic word, a dream or a vision, a friend, a pastor or minister...and each time the Word is spoken or revealed, there is an atmosphere from Heaven released and we can press into all that Heaven has to offer us at that time.
Yes, when the Word is preached or spoken, the Word creates an atmosphere for a shift: Maybe the mind is being renewed, maybe the atmosphere is pregnant for miracles...but there is a supernatural occurrence for the Presence to be there. And, when the Presence is there, there is an availability for each of us to touch the government of Heaven and bring it to our earth! Believer, no matter what you might be going through, God is the ultimate Counselor. (Photo by Jennifer Page "Living Word" via elijahshopper.com)
His counsel is "wonderful." Some Bible translations separate the words "wonderful" and "counselor" with commas. The New International Version (NIV), which I have used, identifies Jesus as "Wonderful Counselor." I love His name identified both ways. He is a Wonderful Counselor, and yet He is simply Wonderful! In fact, He is wonderful and a wonder because He came as both God and man. His love is a "wonder" of the angels and glorified saints – as He came, died, was resurrected, and ascended to Heaven.
When we study the word wonderful, you find that it means "wondrous" and a "miracle." Oh, my! This means that when God speaks to us, there is always a miracle, a sign, or a "wonder" attached to that revelation. His desire is to speak, reveal His godly counsel to us, and also provide the miraculous power to receive and demonstrate that counsel!
Let me make it plain. Let's say that we have been through a healing class and we now have the revelation that it is always God's will to heal. Actually, His godly "counsel" concerning healing has been revealed to us. Then, we take the next step...and remember, there is always a miracle attached to whatever God counseled to us or with us. Believers, if we know this, we will pray expecting! And, amazingly, Jesus wanted to be known as "Wonderful Counselor!" Yes, He wanted His name to be known as a counselor that backed up His counsel and wisdom with a miracle! How awesome is that? Goodness, my faith is elevated with this revelation. I just know that yours is also. Reader, there's still more...hang on!
Your "Mighty God"
The word "mighty" in this passage refers to God as being a Valiant Champion. The word is also rooted in the word "prevail." It's an awesome thought that Jesus came to earth to be our Champion! I love howZephaniah 3:17 describes the LORD: "The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing." Did you realize that Jesus loves to sing over you? He came to earth to rejoice over you and to sing over you! How awesome is that? (Photo by Jennifer Page "Warrior's Heart" via elijahshopper.com)
Yes, He left Heaven with the mindset of prevailing over our enemy and giving us abundant life!
It's traditionally acceptable to think about baby Jesus in the manger. And, of course, it's all part of the beautiful Christmas story. But also, let's remember that Jesus came with a purpose, to destroy the works of the enemy. Dear Believer, whatever it is that you are going through; know this...Jesus came to empower you to be an overcomer!
Yes, it's true that He came to provide salvation. But, it's so much more!Salvation is derived from the Greek word sozo, which means more than being "saved"; salvation is a word that fully translates as protection, prosperity, healing, and (I like to say) everything that Heaven has to offer! When Jesus died on the Cross, we reaped the full benefits of sozo!
Jesus came as a Champion over every stronghold, every setback, and every mountain that attempts to stand before you! You have been promised victory according to the "counsel" of your Mighty God! The enemy will attempt to speak lies that will bind you to the shame of your past. If you struggle with the lies of the enemy, I strongly recommend my book, Silencing the Accuser: Eight Lies Satan Uses Against Christians. This book will empower you to renew your mind so that you can move past your past and experience all that God promises. I want you living victoriously!
Your "Everlasting Father"
Aren't you glad that because Jesus came to earth and died on the Cross that we have the promise of eternal life? He is the Son of God with all of the characteristics of the Father. Everything He did on earth, He did so because He saw the Father doing it. In other words, Jesus was so intimate with the Father that He displayed His heart, love, and character while on the earth. Isaiah is writing this passage to say that Jesus has the attributes of the Father, including eternality. God's love is truly everlasting and eternal. We need not fear death, because Jesus conquered death, Hell, and the grave. Colossians 2:13-15 reminds us that we are "...(eternally) alive with Christ..." and that Jesus triumphed over all evil powers..."by the Cross." (Photo by Linda Harris-Iorio "Little Prince"via elijahshopper.com)
As I write this article, I am even more convicted to think "eternally." In other words, my focus needs to be fixed on heavenly things. This does not mean that I bury my head in the sand and not watch the news. It means that I am aware of my surroundings, but that I take everything that concerns me to prayer. I am to now get God's take on the situation and receive His "counsel" as to how to pray. I will continue to pray Heaven to touch earth, but with a more "eternal" view.
Your "Prince of Peace"
Many of us need peace right now, and I'm so grateful that this is one of the names of Jesus: The "Prince of Peace." The word "peace" is the Hebrew word shalowm (pronounced shaw-lome), which means safe, happy, healthy, and prosperity. By considering these different meanings of peace, our faith can be extended to believe for so much more than experiencing serenity! Yes, Jesus wants to be known as the Son of God, the King of kings, and also the One Who gives us safety, prosperity, happiness, and health! As our King, Jesus preserves and commands peace. And, in His Kingdom, He creates peace! (Photo by Lillis Boyer "Under His Pinions, The Secret Place" via elijahshopper.com)
Believer, receive His peace right now – He is watching over His promises concerning you!
The Zeal of the Lord Will Accomplish These Things for You!
This passage is very clear that the "zeal" of the Lord will bring forth the increase of the government of Heaven on earth. This means that the Lord is jealous concerning us and our future. God is very passionate concerning establishing His Kingdom on earth, and He is passionate concerning each of us being able to experience all that Heaven has to offer.
Dear Believer, during this special season, let's embrace and receive His counsel and His miraculous intervention in our lives. Receive the wonder of all that He died to give you! Also, let's become more eternally focused and fully embrace His everlasting love. And, lastly, let's trust the Lord for safety and protection. He is our sword and shield and high tower. We need not fear – His zeal will preserve and protect us, and He promises to zealously watch over our destinies!
In Him,

Out of Our Comfort Zones – A New Wineskin is Forming! by Dr. Sandie Freed

Just the other day, while I was rushing about trying to get ready for our Sunday church service, the Lord's voice came crashing into my world and brought me literally to a halt! In fact, I was so startled I dropped everything on the floor – my Bible, my message, and the contents of my purse ended up splashed all over our hardwood floor. It was not, by any stretch of the imagination, a small, still voice. It was a clear, directive word I felt was maybe even the audible voice of God.
I heard the Lord say: "Tell My Church I am leading them out of their comfort zones. Behold, I am doing a new thing. Yes, I am preparing a new wineskin that will house My presence and My purposes for this season. I am exposing doctrines that have kept My people from experiencing all that I desire to give and release to them and through them. I am pouring in a new wine and I am removing the old so that I can pour in the new.
I have heard the Lord speak concerning Isaiah 43:19, often through different seasons that the Body of Christ has experienced. In fact, it has almost become a Christian cliché to say, "God is doing a new thing!" So, when I heard Him speak this, and let me say again that it was in a very directive way, I knew He meant that we must make a shift and prepare for His presence to manifest in a new way. In fact, many of us have been in preparation for a while now. Still, let's look at this passage in its entirety and then we will move forward to discuss what shift is necessary to prepare ourselves for the new wineskins. (Photo via Pixabay)
Please keep in mind that He said, "I am leading..." which means we must watch closely and listen for His leading! He knows how to lead us; we, on the other hand, must learn to submit and follow, right? OK, so let's look closely atIsaiah 43:19Behold, I will do a new thing; now shall it spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Notice several main concepts:
1. God will do a NEW thing.
2. NOW shall it spring forth.
3. Shall we not KNOW it?
4. He will make a way in the WILDERNESS and rivers in the DESERT.
When God says that He is about to do something "new," I am certain that change is in the midst. The word "new" in this passage means "fresh," but it also means to "renew" and to "rebuild." I believe this passage, in this season, is speaking about our being on the threshold of experiencing a new thing- but also a renewal. The word "renewal" implies a repairing or a replacement of something. Think about this for a minute – God desires to replace an old belief system and relationship with Him (that has been limited by mindsets, doctrines, etc.) with an updated and even repaired relationship and revelation of Him.
What does this mean? It means that God is going to intimately visit us; His presence will become so tangible that we will surely KNOW Him and actually see Him as He is! (See 1 John 3:2).
Therefore, many of us are about to experience a renewal of our faith in Him. If we believe we have fallen short or even failed God in our old season, He is repairing our belief system and reestablishing the truths of grace and faith and righteousness! Knowing that we are righteous because of the accomplished work at the Cross will stabilize us during times of change. This is because no matter what our old season held, God does not withhold His love and blessings from us as we move forward into the new. Truly knowing this, we repent and change the way we think about ourselves and about God, so that we can run boldly to His Throne and receive a fresh anointing to shift into our new season. Hold on; there's more!
This renewal will bring forth a refreshing and in the midst of this, His perfect plan for our lives will be rebuilt. Whatever the enemy did to tear down the plans and purposes of God for our lives, churches, businesses, families, etc., will be restored and God will bring forth His original intent for our lives and reestablish purpose. We will KNOW it is happening because He is drawing us closer to Him, in a more intimate way.
Our prayer lives are being re-activated and renewed as we are receiving fresh focus and divine strategy as to how and when to pray. Also, we will know He is doing this new thing because we will experience His grace and love in such a way it will be undeniable...and we will have to give Him all the glory because we will recognize the fact that it was He alone who did this. However, to make this shift, will require that we choose to follow Him, be willing to come out of our comfort zones, our comfortable doctrines and comfortable mindsets!
We All Like Comfort!
I immediately wondered what changes were about to take place in my life, our local church, my ministry and, of course, the Church at large. I'll just bet that you are like me...I like being comfortable. Think about all of the comfort in our lives, looking at this at first non-religiously. I would rather wear comfortable shoes rather than those that hurt my feet. I enjoy sitting in a comfortable chair. I love driving a car with comfortable seats, especially seats that are heated in the winter and provide cool air in the summer!
Most of us are the same – we like comfort very much! But, whenever the Lord begins to lead us down a new road or begins to minister to us that it is our season for change, our default button seems to be "hang on to the old; I don't know what the new looks like!" Yes, we get comfortable because we know what to expect and then we begin to sabotage our future by hanging on to whatever is familiar.
Have you ever thought about what the word "comfortable" actually means? It actually means "being free from stress and anxiety and feeling ease and security." Look at the definition again and you'll notice that we desire to be comfortable because a comfort zone says, "Just stay here and you'll be stress free and secure in this place!" Oh my! The only way we can experience true stability and peace is to follow God's leading!
Dear Believer, God is exposing every area of our belief systems and doctrines that blocks us from completely trusting Him and relying on Him only. This must be the reason why His directive word to me emphasized the fact that "He" would lead us. Trusting His lead dictates our complete surrender and our need to always be "right."
The Lord began to download to me concerning how we get comfortable with our lives, our daily activity and, yes, even the church services. But, the Holy Spirit is coming forth with a fresh wind like Pentecost! His breath is being released afresh upon us and it will shake us free from religious mindsets and doctrines of men. I know for a fact that I am thirsty for His presence...and dear ones, there is a thirst that we probably all are experiencing... and it's because we've been in a desert-type experience!
Still in the Wilderness? Join the Club!
Yes. Though we've been having great church and wonderful moves of God, it pales in comparison to what God is about to do! If you will look again at Isaiah 43:19 and the concepts I wrote, God says that He will make a way in the wilderness and provide springs in the desert! Yep, many of us are back in a wilderness experience. But, hold on! It has had its divine purpose!
When experiencing a wilderness, there is an unquenchable thirst that can only be satisfied by a fresh experience with the Lord. The Lord will lead us into a desert experience, just as He did Israel, on purpose! Why? To rid us of an old slavery mentality, the mindsets attached to our past experiences and our false belief systems concerning God, as well as ourselves! The Lord has a way of leading us through a desert that causes us to cry out again. Let's just admit it – we need Him now more than ever before!
Let's not linger any longer in a wilderness experience, but rather let go of every limitation that would tie us to our past. In my recent book, Letting Go of Limitations: Experiencing God's Transforming Power, I discuss religious doctrines, mindsets and hindrances that keep us chained to our past. I thoroughly discuss how to come out of mindsets that keep us in our past and how to shift into God's transforming power.
Reader, I've had to go back and read my own book in times like this. This book will be a help to you as you position yourself for this next season. Dear one, listen up! How can we contain what He is about to do? The answer is this – we must become a new wineskin! God is about to open up fresh springs of refreshing because He is about to do something new.
The New Wineskins
Matthew 9:16-17 "No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch will pull away from the garment, making the tear worse. Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved."
Looking further into God preparing us as NEW wineskins, we must consider the fact that often God will take something used (old) and "restore" it to a new quality. When a wineskin became inflexible and needs a type of "life-extension" so that it can be further used, it had to endure a process where it was soaked in water and followed up with intense rubbing in oil. As this was done, a new flexibility to receive the new wine occurred. It's a good thing that God is opening up rivers and springs right now – this will intensify our need to "soak" in His presence.
As we "soak," Jesus, the Anointed One, will rub us with His holy oil – all for the divine purpose of making us more flexible. We will each seek more of His anointing and, therefore, become even more anointed ourselves as we continue to be used for His glory! For many of us, we become inflexible in our mindsets and belief systems and, therefore, unable to hold new wine from Heaven. The only way to make a shift so that we can experience the river in our wilderness is to be determined to remain steady as He shakes us, removes us from our comfort zones and be willing to hear new direction by His Spirit.
An old season must end before a new season begins. Therefore, let's prepare for the NEW by letting go of the old! Also, the old wine in an old season is coming to an end. I've been noticing that my messages are changing as I travel from region to region. The books and articles I am writing are also in the midst of change. This is because I am desperately attempting to let go of what "I think I know" and embrace His new thing! He is speaking differently...let's not limit His voice to a familiar voice and directive of the past. Yes, the Lord is challenging us to let go! God desires to release a new liberty to us and a fresh anointing that will destroy yokes of oppression in our own lives as well as others! (Photo via Wikipedia)
Allow me to pray for you as you let go of the old and embrace the new:
Father, I pray today for Your children. You are leading us a different way and we are learning to completely trust You. Thank You for leading us out of our old wilderness. Thank You for delivering us from the false voice of the enemy and the seductive voice of our past experiences that do not give You glory. Thank You for preparing each of us to be a new wineskin so that we can receive all that Heaven has to offer to us. As we pray for Heaven to touch earth, we submit to letting go of our comfort zones so that we can be fully used to demonstrate Your Kingdom. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Anointing to Finish Well by Dr. Sandie Freed

I received a phone call just the other day from a dear friend. Panicked, she began to tell me that she felt as if she were at her wits' end! I instantly related to her words. I have used that phrase before, haven't you? In fact, I believe we're in a season right now that the enemy would love to have us confess that we are hopeless and helpless...even feeling as if we were losing our minds! But, that is a lie.
Let's examine where this phrase originated and then we will discuss the fact that: God wants us focused on His ability to empower us and equip us to experience victory and finish well.
Have you even wondered where that idiom came from: "I'm at my wit's end!?" Actually, it means that you've been worried and upset and have tried every which way you knew to solve a problem, but couldn't! Sometimes people might say, "I'm at the end of my wits!" It still means the same – you've tried everything, you're so upset and you've reached your limitations, both emotionally and mentally while attempting to complete a task or solve a problem.
Are You at Your Wits' End?
Believer, amazingly, the phrase originated in the King James Version of the Bible and is documented in Psalm 107:27"They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end." This Biblical verse is referring to people who go back and forth in their devotion and passion to the Lord. I believe that we are in a season where the enemy is trying to quench our passion by trying to wear us out! We are facing decisions that need answers, building projects that need finances, physical illnesses that need healing, right? Yet, if we do not remain focused on His Word and His truths concerning His ability to watch over His Word and perform it, we might be tempted to waver in our faith and our trust in Him.
The ancient definition of "wit" is "knowledge" and "wisdom." Therefore, we can say that this phrase means that many people could be at the end of their knowledge and wisdom in finding answers and solutions. We all want to fulfill divine purpose and finish well. To us, as Believers, it means we must have faith and seek God's divine wisdom for this season and the seasons ahead. It is easy to become frustrated right now, especially with so many different prophetic voices and opposing views concerning these times.
We Need God's Divine Wisdom to Finish Well
Do you know who the wisest man (other than Jesus Christ) was that ever lived? Sure you do; Solomon! This man started his walk with the Lord with tremendous zeal and passion, only to waver later and lose his focus. I want to share something that will keep us on track and help each of us end well.
Solomon was King David's son. When David grew older, God designated Solomon to succeed his father as king. However, Solomon recognized his inability to govern the people of Israel. I suppose you might say he felt "at the end of his wits!" as he attempted to govern well. So, early in his reign, Solomon offered a sacrifice in Gibeon and waited there all night long, hoping to hear from God. Well, as you know, God was faithful and appeared to him in a dream.
God told Solomon that he could ask for anything and God would give it to him. In humility, and I love this part, this young inexperienced king asked for an "understanding heart" to judge the people. In receiving this, Solomon hoped that he might be empowered to "discern between good and evil." God was so pleased with his request, He not only gave him a wise heart (wisdom), but also he added multitudes of material blessings!(1 Kings 3:4-13). (Photo via Pixabay)
Solomon used this divine wisdom in his handling of the case of a disputed baby (1 Kings 3:16-27). He identified the real mother in the dispute by threatening to cut the child in half, fully waiting for the child's real mother to relent and give up the child to the other in order to spare her child's life. This is an awesome example of how Solomon had God's wisdom- who would think of that? Yes, it had to originate with God!
We also know that Solomon was knowledgable in natural science (1 Kings 4:33) and had general marked levels of intelligence (10:1-9). In the book of Proverbs, we read the demonstration of Solomon's wisdom that we treasure today (see Proverbs 8:32-36). There is no doubt that Solomon provided us many practical guidelines for successful living. Yet, though for a while he may not have felt he was at his wits' end because he had sought God for wisdom. I believe he was eventually feeling that way later in life when satan found his Achilles' heel.
Solomon's weakness was when he sinned and disobeyed God's commandments by marrying foreign women. God was explicitly clear about this commandment in Exodus 23:32-33. The issue was this: he married foreign women and then worshiped their foreign gods! Thus, Solomon backslid right into the sin of idolatry.
Believer, whenever we go astray from God's directives, it is satan's plan to cause us not to use wisdom and, especially, not to finish well. Not putting God first is a form of idolatry. Solomon was given wisdom in response to his asking for wisdom. The same wisdom is available to us. James 1:5-6 tells us to ask for it, but always asking in faith that we've received. We will be at our wits' end if we don't put God first and use His wisdom every day of our lives. We are in a season where we must be like Joshua and remain focused on our assignment. Let's talk about Joshua and how he maintained passion to finish well.
Joshua Finished Well
Joshua proves to us that it is wisdom to heed God's commandments and directives. Joshua, Chapter One, is one of my favorite passages. The book starts with God telling Joshua that Moses is dead and that it would be he, Joshua, who would lead God's children into their Promised Land. Several times within the very first chapter, God instructs Joshua to be strong and to have courage.
This tells me that Joshua might have been tempted with fear; after all, he was leading the entire nation across the Jordan River and into their Promised Land. However, they were going to have to go to war to take that land. Courage needed? Absolutely! Remaining strong? A must have! But, how would he do that...how was Joshua to remain encouraged and have strength to move forward?
God gives more instruction to Joshua and this, my friends, is the insurance policy for Joshua and us as well in our season of moving forward and finishing well:
Joshua 1:7-9 Be careful to obey all the law My servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Meditating on God's Word
Dear ones, the way to fulfill destiny and finish our race well is to do just as Joshua had to do. Joshua remained strong and courageous by meditating on the Word of God day and night and did what the Word said. As new Covenant Believers, we are not under the Law of Moses; so for us, today, to be successful is to meditate on the Word of God. To meditate means to "ponder, keep in mind, imagine, speak and utter." This means that we are to keep in mind only what God instructs and says.
To finish this race, remain strong and encouraged, we cannot meditate (ponder, utter, etc.) upon anything other than the Word. The word "meditate" is connected to the word "consider." I know that in this season that the Lord instructed me to consider only what He has said concerning issues which I am facing on a daily basis. I travel and speak a lot, and this is one of the main messages I speak to the Body of Christ: Consider NOT what it looks like in the natural! only consider what God says! (Photo via Pixabay)
The New Testament uses Abraham as a very good example for us. At the time God first spoke to them concerning having a child their names were Abram and Sarai. (God later changed their names to Abraham and Sarah). Though at first, when God told Sarai and Abram that they were to have a child, they actually laughed at God. They were both skeptical because they were both old.
Yes, like many of us, they focused on and considered the natural. So, in a desperate attempt to have a child, they came up with their own plan and birthed Ishmael. (I think maybe some of us have done that also; I know I have!) However, God would not honor Ishmael and so He spoke to them once again and confirmed that they would have a son together. You know the story; they had Isaac who was later named Israel. What happened? Where did the shift come from? After Abraham was even older now and Sara was older also?
The Book of Romans is clear that Abraham finally chose to "consider" (meditate, ponder, imagine, speak and utter) what God had said! Romans 4:19 "And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb."
Believers, maybe many of us have messed up a bit and wavered in our faith and maybe even birthed an Ishmael. However, it's never too late to make the wise choice to "consider" and "meditate" on what God said. Abraham fulfilled destiny by considering God's promise. Joshua had to continue to consider and meditate on the Word of God in order to shout down the seemingly impregnable wall of Jericho!
Think about it. Joshua was to use only the weapon of a SHOUT in warfare. He was not allowed to use any other weapon than the obedience of marching around Jericho for seven days. They marched once a day for six days and seven times on the seventh day. They were not allowed to mutter a word. But, I'll bet Joshua was meditating and considering constantly! Yes, he kept imagining that wall falling down; he kept meditating on God's promise and at the right time, he led the army in a great SHOUT. And just as God promised, the Jericho wall fell and they took the city. Now that's a good example of finishing well in a certain season. (Photo via Wikimedia)
Let's Finish Well
Precious saint, I know these are difficult times, but in spite of that God is empowering us with a shout! Though walls, even mountains, stand before us, God is faithful to deliver us. Let's decide today to only consider the Word of the Lord. Let us meditate on His greatness and His faithfulness. Psalm 91 is clearly given for times such as these. Taking time to meditate on that passage will prove comforting for every Believer, no matter what challenge we are facing.
Instead of being at our wits' end, let us ask for God's wisdom and then passionately meditate and consider the fact that what He says He will do – He will do! I have written several books that would encourage you, but the one that I believe would be well worth reading in this season would be Silencing the Accuser: Eight Lies Satan Uses Against Believers. My latest book, Faith After Failure: Reconnecting With Your Destiny would be very helpful as well. Both books are faith builders and also give time for self-reflection so that you can shift into victorious living.
In closing, I want to get back to Jeremiah. Jeremiah was a man who at first focused on his weaknesses. God, however, focused only on Jeremiah's strengths and potential to fulfill destiny. God touched Jeremiah in such a way that he was able to "see" his destiny. Yes, Jeremiah saw a new season, meaning that he was able to see himself as God saw him. Rather than focusing on his disappointments in himself, Jeremiah's eyes were opened to see himself as a victor.
Believer, God wants to touch you today as well. God wants you to consider (meditate on) the fact that He will watch over His words and bring them to pass!(Photo via Pixabay)
Allow me to pray for you and impart strength and courage to your spirit:
Father God, I pray for each reader. I pray that You would touch their eyes so that they would see that their future is in Your divine hands. Lord, I pray for an impartation of strength and courage and that each person would have confidence in You and Your Word. Father, You state that You will watch over Your Word to perform it. I pray that You will watch over the destiny of every reader. Thank You for empowering us to meditate and consider the Word of the Lord and thank You for the SHOUT that you are placing within each person's spirit. Thank You, Lord, for a strong finishing anointing and the impartation to finish well. In Jesus mighty name! Amen!

We Are Being Prepared for a Fresh Anointing by Dr. Sandie Freed

A Story of My Dog Hannah and Fresh Oil!
My one year old dog Hannah is the cutest thing. And let me tell you – she runs the house...well just about! Those of you who love animals understand. Just a few days ago I drove her to her groomer and dropped her off as usual. She was there a long time before they called me to pick her up, in fact I was getting a bit concerned. She is usually there only a few hours, but this time it seemed as if she was there all day! When I arrived to pick her up, one of the ladies that works there said, "Hannah got the special today!" (Photo of Hannah via Sandie Freed)
"The special?" I never ask for the special, in fact I didn't know there was a special! "Yep, she really got the royal treatment." Another lady chimed in. I chuckled thinking...now I like that term – "royal treatment."

She was brought out on a pillow that resembled something that would host a crown, but instead seated Hannah. Her hair bow was royal purple and her nails also. When I bent down to get a kiss from Hannah, I noticed that she smelled differently. Normally she smells like dog perfume, but this time it was frankincense and myrrh! I bent down to smell again...yes, it was frankincense and myrrh alright. I looked at the groomer and asked if they were using a new dog perfume. She smiled a big smile and answered, "We anointed Hannah with oil today."

I was thrilled...yet a little surprised. I didn't know how many Believers worked there or why they felt compelled to anoint my dog that day. So I asked and said, "That's wonderful! I anoint Hannah whenever she acts sick or when I take her to the vet. Was she sick today? Is that why you anointed her with oil?"

"No, we just felt to anoint her. She must have needed fresh oil today!" My spirit leaped as I heard the Lord say to me: "This is a prophetic demonstration of all I am doing with My people. Just like Hannah was being prepared for fresh oil, I am preparing My people to receive fresh oil. There is a fresh anointing being poured out and upon My people and I am positioning them to receive it."
The Struggle Between the Old and New
Believers, I have always said, "Don't limit how God chooses to speak to you." The way He spoke through my dog's visit to the groomer was absolutely an amazing experience. As I drove home, the Holy Spirit began to minister to me about the struggle we are in spiritually and how it is being used to prepare us for our new season and fresh anointing.

God is bringing us out of the old and into the new. In times of transition we are not completely out of the old, nor are we completely into the new. This is one reason we are struggling. We want out of the old...NOW...so that we can experience the new, right? But transition requires that we become determined to come completely out of our old season and follow His lead. (Photo by Robert Bartow"The Open Door" via elijahshopper.com)

God spoke something profound to Samuel and He is saying it to each of us as well. He said, "How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel?" (1 Samuel 16:1). Samuel was grieving not just over Samuel, but also an old season in which Samuel had reigned. All too often we look over our shoulders at our own past experiences and grieve over them. There are many things that have reigned over our hearts and lives that God is saying to: Let go and move on!I'm like many of you when I grieve over loss, disappointments and even loss of vision.
I've blamed myself, others and even God! But we are being challenged by the Lord to no longer grieve over the past, but hold onto the promises that God always restores things better than they were...and in His timing. Grieving will keep us pressing forward into our new season. If we don't let go of the old season, grief will manifest strongly and we can experience loss of vision. It was important for Samuel to shift out of this grief so that he could fulfill his own destiny.
Fill Your Horn With Oil!
We read further in verse 1, where God gives Samuel further instruction: "Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons" (1 Samuel 16:1, ESV).
There are three things that are important in this passage to note. Knowing that God has already challenged Samuel to let go of the past, He then says, "Fill your horn with oil," then He says "Go." And lastly He states that He will "send" Samuel to anoint the next king. Keep in mind that all along, Samuel was being positioned to receive a fresh oil so that he could fulfill destiny. First he had to let go of the old season- this is what had to occur so that he was positioned for the fresh anointing which would be needed in the new season.

Believers, we are also being prepared for the same. The word "sent" has an apostolic application of us being "sent" forth to fulfill destiny and divine commissioning. However, we must have fresh oil to be effective and empowered. We must have a fresh supply. Have you ever smelt rancid oil – oil that is old? If you have you have an even greater understanding of how the fresh oil from the Holy Spirit is needed for this new season.
It's Time to Get Focused and GO!
I've heard it said and even said it myself: "If you don't know where you're going, then any road will get you there."
God told Samuel where to go. He said that he was sending him to Jesse the Bethlehemite. God is being very specific in this apostolic season of sending. In the Old Testament we read about Israel coming out of Egypt; they were in a time of transition weren't they? But they also had to come out of the old place to cross over into the new. (Photo via geograph)

If you recall in Exodus 14, there is an account when the Lord told Moses to camp at Pi-Hahiroth (verse 1), which means "the Place of Liberty". Dear reader, God is saying to us today that the new season, the new place, will release a fresh liberty unto us, but if we stay in the old we will be in bondage.

Another place where the Lord sent them was to Baal-zephon (verse 2), which means "lord of the north". Many times the term "north" is symbolically used to describe judgment. Sometimes the Lord will call us out of an old place and season so that He can judge our enemies! Our enemy may be fear, anxiety, failure, frustration, etc., but let me assure you of this – God is always pursuing us and He desires His best for us – always! If He is calling us out of the old, this means something great is at the crossing over point!
Do You Want a Fresh Anointing?
I believe we are all like Esther and have come forth for such a time as this (Esther 4:14). In my book Destiny Thieves: Defeat Seducing Spirits and Achieve Your Purpose in God, I write an entire chapter on how Esther was prepared for her future role as queen with a fresh anointing. Esther came forth at just the right time, but she had to leave her old season behind in order to enter into the new. She endured much preparation and then opposition came from Haman, the Amalekite, who sought to destroy her and her nation.

Esther's preparation involved deep cleansing, purifying regiments and the process of anointing her body – all necessary processes in order to meet her future husband. Yes, she was anointed, but the word "anointed" in this story actually means that the fragrance oil was rubbed and scrubbed into her skin – to the place where she BECAME the fragrance! I encourage you to read my book to understand the different oils and fragrances that Esther was prepared with.

Yes, there is a fragrance prepared for each of us to enter into our destiny. I know you are ready for a fresh anointing. Let's leave the past in the past...shall we? Destiny awaits!
My empowerment prayer to help get you there: Lord, I pray for each reader today and ask that You ignite a passion within them to cross over into their future. I pray that we let go of our past grief, concerns, and fears and that we boldly declare that we will achieve divine destiny! Thank You Lord for encouraging us in this journey as we step forward in great faith. In Jesus name, Amen!
A time of impartation: Right now, in the name of Jesus, I impart the courage to leave the past behind, see your future and cross over into the Promised Land! I impart the ability to defeat the opposing Amalekite spirit that attempts to steal our destiny and every lying spirit that attempts to cause fear or intimidation. By Your Spirit, Lord, I impart supernatural strength to Go! Amen. (Now simply close your eyes and open your hands and receive this impartation by faith!)
Love and Blessings,
Sandie Freed
